These 5 books are sure to be treasured in your home for years to come. I have intentions to save each of these books to read to my grandchildren one day, with hopes that they will become family heirlooms and treasured for many generations. Each of these books are a solid investment in your child’s future
1 – The Complete Book of Farmyard Tales with CD, Padded Cover Hardcover, 328 pages, Ages 2 +, $24.99
This book contains 20 stories all about a delightful family and their adventures on Apple Tree Farm. Each page contains full color illustrations with a little hidden duck on every page…my kids LOVE searching for the duck! This book is not only a fun read-aloud story book for ages 2.5+, but it is written with two levels of text. The top of each page contains simple text. You can read that text alone to make the story a quick read for those nights when you JUST WANT THE KIDS TO GO TO BED!!! Also, once your kids start to read, they can read the simple text, as it is designed to be easy to read. Your kids can also put the CD in the car, and practice following along on their own.
2 – There’s A Mouse About the House, Hardcover, 16 pages, Ages 2+, $11.99
Slip the mouse through a slot on each page as it goes on adventures through the house in search of cheese. Your child will practice fine-motor skills working to maneuver the mouse and lift-flaps through the book. The mouse always travels from left to right across the page, helping children develop pre-reading and writing skills. Children learn to turn one page at a time, otherwise, the mouse will not be there. Worried about losing the mouse? There is a pattern on the back cover so you can make your own. Or, contact your independent consultant (NicoleMerrickUsborneBooks@hotmail.com) for a replacement.
3 – Nibbles, Hardcover, 16 pages, Ages 4+, $16.99
My boys love this book so much! I have given it as a gift to a few friends and their kids love it as well. The story is SO interactive and unique. Nibbles is a book monster who travels into other classic stories, changes them, until your kids (the readers) put him back in his cage. But don’t take your eyes off him, not even for a single second! For extra fun, add the Nibbles plush (sold separately, $12.99) and your kids can create their own cage for Nibbles out of a cardboard box. Nibbles definitely inspires creativity and fun. This books also makes a great read aloud for classrooms and story times!
4 – Olga da Polga, Hardback with slipcover, 176 pages, Ages 6+, $17.99
This book is laugh out loud funny. Its an illustrated chapter book that is great to read aloud with your “bigger” kids who are already reading independently (continuing to read aloud together is VERY important, but that is another post topic!). Olga da Polga is a little guinea pig with big ideas! With a head full of stories and a nose for adventure, Olga da Polga is also quite a handful. This anniversary edition of a timeless read-aloud by Paddington Bear author Michael Bond is made even more special by Catherine Raynor’s exquisite illustrations – making it an instant family heirloom.
5 – Illustrated Stories from Shakespeare, Padded Hardback, 414 pages, Ages 8+, $19.99
This book has beautiful illustrations on every page. It is written in modern language, making these classes plays easier to understand. If your kids grow up understanding some of Shakespeare’s classic plot lines, they will be more likely to appreciate and enjoy the complete, unabridged plays as they mature. Included are six of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays, The Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and The Tempest.
